The incredible force of nature that is Gabriela Quintero of  Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. Using lighting fast golpe and rasgueado rhythm techniques, she provides a percussive landscape that has the volume and power of a guitar and drum kit combined. Self-confessed ‘metal heads’, ‘Rod y Gab’ are inspired by (and in some cases have done of covers of) the likes of Led Zeppelin, Metallica and Pantera as well as more obvious discernible  Spanish guitar pioneers Al de Meola, John Mclaughlin and Paco de Lucia. The latin shades of Santana and Astor Piazolla are also prime influences. (‘Rod y Gab’ shot to a new level of commercial success recently with their work on the latest Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.) This first video clip features Gabriela performing a finger-blistering, rule-breaking Spanish guitar/wah pedal solo that probably shouldn’t be tried at home…
